About me
Rose Gatfield-Jeffries
I am a PhD student in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh. My work sits at the intersection of philosophy of science and AI, focusing on the epistemological and ethical questions that arise as AI and automation are integrated into scientific practice. I also have interests in philosophy of the biomedical sciences, the history of medicine and its colonial legacies, and feminist epistemology.
For the 2026 academic year I was a Graduate Student Awardee at Pitt’s Hub for AI and Data Science Leadership (HAIL) - a short profile on my participation is published here. In Summer 2026 I took part in Northeastern University’s AI + Data Ethics (AIDE) Summer Program.
I was born and raised in Aotearoa New Zealand and have also lived in Australia and the UK. Outside of research, you’ll usually find me enjoying the outdoors, reading, or travelling somewhere new.
Before Pittsburgh:
- MPhil in History and Philosophy of Science, Medicine, and Technology, University of Cambridge
- BSc (Honours) in History and Philosophy of Science and Political Economy, University of Sydney
